　　报告人简介：

　　徐明 (Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, 1996；MA, 中国社科院研究生院, 1987；BA, 北京大学, 1984)，现任武汉大学哲学教授。受聘武大前，曾在美国的西弗吉尼亚大学 (West Virginia University)、匹兹堡大学 (University of Pittsburgh) 和印地安纳大学 (Indiana University at Bloomington) 任过临时教职，还在美国的一家软件公司任职数年。

　　主要学术兴趣：哲学逻辑、形而上学和语言哲学。

　　主要学术作品： Facing the Future: Agents and Choices in Our Indeterminist World (Oxford University Press, 2001; 与 N. Belnap 和 M. Perloff 合著) 和国际学术期刊上发表的关于modal logic, tense logic, conditional logic, deontic logic, logic of agency, causation, action 的若干论文。

　　报告摘要（Abstract）：

　　We present a theory of actions based on a theory of events in branching time, in which “particular” or “token” actions are taken to be sets of transitions from their initial states to the outcomes. We also present a simple theory of event composition by which composite events can be formed out of other events. Various kinds of group actions, including instantaneous group actions and sequential group actions, are introduced by applying event composition, and an extended stit theory of agency is proposed, in which the stit operators are combined or equipped with reified group actions.
