Research Areas: philosophy of logic, Gödel, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind and cognitive science, and science studies

Liu Xioali graduated from Peking University with a Ph.D. in philosophy of science in 1997. She taught in the Department of Philosophy, Inner Mongolia University in the 1980s and 1990s. From 2000, she came to teach in the Department of Philosophy at Beijing Normal University as a doctoral tutor for philosophy of science and the history of science. Since 2006, she has been the Responsibility Professor of Philosophy at the School of Philosophy, Renmin University of China. From Aug. 2008 to Feb. 2009, she was a senior research scholar in the Department of Philosophy, Harvard University. Currently she is the director of the Institute of Modern Logic and Philosophy of Science, and the doctoral tutor for philosophy of science and logic.

Some of her publications include: Vitality of Rationality: A Study of Gödel's Thought (Hunan Education Publishing House, 2000), "The dilemma and the trend of the Cognitive Science Guideline" (Chinese Social Science, 2003), "Metaphor of Interaction and Philosophy of Embodiment" (Philosophical Researches 2005), and "Gödel's Philosophical Program and Husserl's Phenomenology" (Synthese, 2010).

She has presided over the National Social Science Funding Project "A Research of Gödel Thought" and the Ministry of Education Key Base Funding Project "Philosophical issues in the cutting edge of cognitive science". Currently she is presiding over the National Social Science Major Funding Project "Challenges of cognitive science to philosophy: major theoretical problems of philosophy of mind and cognitive science."

She has won the Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award and the Beijing Teaching Achievement Award. Currently she is the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Logic, the director of the philosophy of mathematics committee, the vice director of philosophy of science, and the vice director of the thinking and cognitive science committee in the Chinese Society for Dialectics of Nature, a member of the analytic philosophy committee in the Chinese Society of Western Philosophy. She is a Member of the Editorial Board of Frontiers of Philosophy in China.
